Macaulay Culkin discusses his “complicated relationship” with parenthood. He described his life as a father of two with Brenda Song on Instagram.
He credits Song with helping him see Father’s Day differently after years of struggling with it due to his relationship with his father, Christopher “Kit” Culkin.
Culkin posted on Instagram, “If you know me at all, you probably realize that Father’s Day has been a bit tricky for me in the past.”
He wanted to start his family with 36-year-old Song differently because his relationship with his dad was difficult. “Besides getting a little extra sleep, I focus on making each day a special celebration for my boys instead of myself,” Home Alone star stated. “They are the reason I became a dad (no disrespect to Brenda),” the 43-year-old actor said.
Father’s Day is more important to our family than St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and the 4th of July, but we don’t celebrate it as much as birthdays or Christmas. He said he enjoys planning Father’s Day events for the boys since it’s special.
He remarked, “Father’s Day isn’t for me, it’s for the people that make me feel like a father.”
The former child star has freely discussed his difficult connection with his father. He said that when he gained fame as a boy, his dad, who was also his manager, started asking for difficult things.
In 2001, Culkin said, “I was earning a ton of money, but Kit made me sleep on the couch just because he could. He showed his dominance this way. I wouldn’t sleep in a bed if he said I couldn’t.
Culkin told Marc Maron in 2018 that his father was abusive before he got famous. After becoming resentful of Culkin’s success, he said his father was “physically and mentally” abusive.
He said, “He was jealous. I was better at whatever he desired and did it before I turned 10.”
After escaping his parents at 16, Culkin made headlines. In court, he challenged their management of his $17 million fortune. A Manhattan judge ordered the Culkin family’s previous lawyer, Billy Breitner, to manage Culkin’s money until he reached 18.
Dakota, Culkin and Song’s son, was born in 2021 after dating in 2018. They had another kid in 2022, but they haven’t revealed his name.
During an interview with Joe Rogan in 2018, he said, “I’m going to have some babies.” He said, “This girl is special, so I might start having kids with her soon. Our efforts have been made.”
In an interview to celebrate his Hollywood Walk of Fame star in December, Culkin said having his kids present was “the main reason for doing this.”
We do everything today because of that, he remarked. We often say that our pre-kids lives seem like dreams or far away. I love that my boys can watch a dog pee on my name.”
He adores his partner. Speaking after receiving his Hollywood Walk of Fame star, he said, “Finally, I want to thank Brenda.” You’re everything to me. Your support is my greatest. No one is more excited for me today than you.”
He said, “You’re not just the most amazing woman I’ve ever met, you’re the most incredible person I’ve ever known. “You created our family and gave me my purpose in life. You and our two boys are my top three favorites since they were born. My greatest love is you.”
