An unusual tale surfaced on Reddit when a person with the username “TheRamenSage” posted a question for married couples in the “AskReddit” forum, asking them if someone objected to their wedding.

The Redditor wanted others to share their stories in the comments section, stating how their wedding turned out after the objection. “Was it a nightmare, or was it a funny story to last a lifetime?” the user asked, unaware that someone besides the bride and groom would share an unusual story in the comments section.

What Was the Unusual Story?

One Redditor, who officiated a wedding over a decade ago, shared that he witnessed something unusual at the ceremony. While performing the ceremony, the man asked the guests if anyone objected to the wedding, unaware that a man would rise from his seat upon hearing the question.

“Yeah, I object. That’s my wife,” a man from the audience said before everyone went silent. No one expected one of the guests to answer the man’s question. It was shocking for everyone to see a man claim that the bride was his wife.

Soon, the bride’s mother broke the silence asking the man who he was. Then, she asked him if he was “Aaron,” which added to the confusion in the room. As the ceremony officiator, the Redditor held the mic and told the guests to remain seated while he tried to sort out the issue.

“I pull the guy aside, and he claims that they got married at 18, she abandoned him, and they never divorced,” the man recalled in his comment under the original Reddit post.

The man, who claimed to be the bride’s husband, tried to get in touch with the woman for years to finalize their divorce legally, but the woman ignored him. As a result, he threatened to show up at her wedding — something the woman thought he would never do.

The Redditor shared that the bride was 19 when she allegedly abandoned her husband and stopped talking to him, and she was 30 when she tied the knot for the second time. However, the officiator couldn’t proceed with the ceremony, since the man claimed the bride was his wife.

Trying to solve the matter, the Redditor asked the bride to step aside with her parents. The man recalled feeling panicked when he heard the bride’s parents ask her if she hadn’t divorced the man. Their conversation made the officiator realize the woman had indeed married the man who claimed she was his wife.

“The groom comes over, ready to fight – me, the husband, anybody,” he recalled. Since the bride was already married, the wedding was canceled. The Redditor revealed that the wedding ceremony occurred a year after the incident when the bride divorced her first husband.

“And here’s the kicker: 2 years later, she just walked out on him,” the man shared. His comment on the original Reddit post garnered over 2,400 likes, and many people shared their opinions on it.

One person said, “Damn, dude, this girl just won’t take responsibility about anything, huh?” Meanwhile, another user commented, “Wow. That’s the best story I’ve heard in a while.”

“Just out of curiosity, how was she able to get a marriage license if she was still legally married?” a user asked the wedding officiator, who replied that he wasn’t sure about that.

Here is another story where a priest suggested calling off the wedding after the groom’s pronouncements. He turned to the bride, saying, “Don’t teach him.”
