Billie Eilish says she and ex Jesse Rutherford are still friends 1 year after breakup: ‘One of my favorite people’

In an unpublished excerpt from Eilish’s Rolling Stone cover, the “Happier Than Ever” singer revealed she and Rutherford are still on good terms one year after their breakup.

“That’s my guy, truly one of my favorite people in the world,” the 22-year-old said of the “Neighbourhood” frontman, 32.

Page Six confirmed in May 2023 that the duo “amicably split” after less than nine months of dating. At the time, Eilish’s rep called any speculation about infidelity “false.”

While Eilish has rarely spoken about Rutherford since their split, fans were quick to guess which songs he may have inspired on her new album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft.”

However, the “What Was I Made For?” singer told Rolling Stone the record was influenced by several different people and experiences, encouraging fans to refrain from playing the guessing game.

“As songwriters, our job is to write songs about whatever we feel that we want to write songs about,” she explained. “That’s my job. That’s why I’m here.”

She continued, “But the reaction can be really toxic, and I just don’t want to do anything to accentuate that. I want to be clear: Please don’t take it and run. Take it and feel it and sit there and understand and hear me.”

The nine-time Grammy winner, who recently revealed she is queer, also seemingly confirmed that she is currently single — and plans to stay that way for a while.

“I plan on never dating again,” she joked. “That’s not true, obviously. But no, I don’t see myself being serious with anyone until I find someone that really feels right to me, and that is not interesting to me right now.”

In her expansive interview with the outlet, Eilish explained that the process of creating her newest album helped her come to terms with her sexuality.

Specifically, “Lunch” — a song about having a crush on a girl — helped her step into her most authentic self.

“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” she said. “I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after.”

“I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina,” the “lovely” singer further admitted.
