Kate Middleton and Prince William have a timeless love tale. While attending St. Andrews University, the two initially crossed paths and fell in love after becoming acquaintances. During a trip to Kenya, Prince William proposed romantically, and the Westminster Abbey wedding was a fitting wedding for a future monarch.
It took months to get ready for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Naturally, Kate Middleton’s wedding gown was the subject of much discussion, and every little detail had to be flawless.
Although Prince William and Kate Middleton participated in the planning, they had little control over some aspects of it. For instance, it was reported that the future king’s request to don a different uniform from his current one was turned down. According to reports, he was apparently “unhappy” with one important detail: the guest list.
Since they first met at St Andrews University in Scotland, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s choice to enroll there permanently altered their lives.
Kate, who was 19 at the time and had just moved from Marlborough College, had caught William’s eye.
In 2002, he spent around £200 on a front-row ticket to a charity fashion event in which Kate was featured.
Wearing the now-famous see-through dress, Kate showed off her panties on the catwalk. By that time, William thought he had grown to feel something for her and no longer simply a buddy.
The two were once close friends. Together with pals Fergus Boyd and Olivia Bleasdale, they moved into an off-campus apartment in 13A Hope Street in the autumn of 2002. But there was no guarantee that William and Kate would be permitted to live in the off-campus flat.
Charlotte Smith, the landlord, remembered in 2023 that the flat had a strict no-boys policy when William was supposed to move there.
We were resolved not to host young guys in the apartment again after a bad encounter with some youngsters there. There was a lot of damage, including shattered windows and furniture, which really turned us off. When I told this young woman that we would really like not to have any more males, she said, “What if I told you that it was Prince William?” Smith told the Daily Mail.
Smith was persuaded by her husband that the future king may reside in the apartment. Prince William and Kate Middleton proved to be “ideal tenants.”
We planned to meet Kate Middleton, Fergus, and Olivia prior to their move in, but we decided not to approach Prince William since we assumed he must have a strong credit score. However, he was adamant about seeing us,” she said.
At Hope Street, the now-Prince and Princess of Wales made monthly payments of around £400.
“We moved in together as friends because we were living together, we lived with a couple of others as well, it just sort of blossomed from there really,” Prince William said in their engagement video of their time in college. “We simply spent more time together, saw each other more, and engaged in activities.”
Was William, then, a romantic? He said that he prepared Kate’s meal. She acknowledged that she “would have to wander in and save something that was going” and that “he would always come with a bit of angst and a bit of anger if something had gone wrong.”
Prince William remembered, “I was trying to cook these amazing fancy dinners to impress Kate, and what would happen was that I would burn something, something would spill, something would catch fire, and she would be sitting in the background trying to help, and basically taking control of the whole situation,” he said.
While on vacation in Kenya on October 20, 2010, Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton. According to reports, the prince had been keeping a ring in a bag for three weeks and had never taken it out. Although Kate had thought about William popping the question, it was a “complete shock.”
Kate said, “It was very romantic.” “That person is a real romantic.”

The ring, which belonged to Princess Diana, William’s mother, was remarkable and appropriate for a future queen.
Kate’s family was not surprised by the proposal either. During a night out with her siblings, James and Pippa, at the Old Boot pub close to their parents’ home in Bucklebury, England, the now-Princess of Wales made the decision to share the wonderful news.
We spoke softly while seated in a corner. According to Us Weekly, James wrote in his biography Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, “Catherine whispers the news and says it will become public in the next day or so.” He said, “Pippa and I want to be obviously excited, but we have to control our emotions so nobody suspects anything.”
“We silently acknowledge that we will always be there for one another, watch out for one another, and encourage one another:”
Prince William made the decision to forego the custom of requesting consent from the bride’s father before marrying his daughter. He was “torn” about the choice and anxious that he may turn it down.
William and Kate were married in London’s Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. Even though the wedding was meticulously planned, Prince William was still having some issues in the run-up to the big day.
During royal weddings, the royal attire is typically a major topic of conversation, and Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding was no exception.
In addition to Kate Middleton’s stunning Alexander McQueen gown, Buckingham Palace revealed William’s attire prior to the wedding:
On his wedding day, Prince William has decided to don the Irish Guards Colonel’s outfit. Prince William opted to wear the uniform of his highest honorary post in the Army, despite having active service with the Army (The Household Cavalry Regiment) and the Royal Air Force (Search and Rescue Force). He is commissioned in all three Armed Services.
In the Guard of Honour Order, Prince William will don a forage cap and the dress of an Irish Guards mounted officer. In the presence of a member of the Royal Family, the Prince will don gold sword slings and a red and gold sash. No sword will be worn by the Prince. The Prince will don the Golden Jubilee Medal, the Garter Star, and the Garter Sash with the Royal Air Force Wings.
The statement went on to say, “The Irish Guards’ characteristic button arrangement in groups of four is featured on the tunic, which is in Guards’ Red. The Crown Imperial is above the Harp of Ireland on the buttons. The Irish Guards’ status as the Fourth Regiment of Foot Guards in the Order of Battle is shown by the buttons on their uniform.
“The eight-pointed Star of the Most Illustrious Order of St. Patrick, along with the regiment’s motto, ‘Quis Separabit?’ (‘Who shall separate us?’), is the Irish Guards’ insignia on the Forage Cap.”
Prince William was proud of his outfit, but it wasn’t what he desired. His main demand was actually refused by Queen Elizabeth II.
Prince William wanted to wear his Household Cavalry outfit, according to royal expert Nikkhah in the BBC documentary Royal Wedding: A Day to Remember. However, Queen Elizabeth had an other plan.
For William and Harry, the military is everything. “No, you’re wearing your Irish Guards,” the Queen responded. You have taken over as the Irish Guards’ new colonel. Nikkhah said, “That’s the one thing he didn’t get his way on, and he deferred to Granny.”
Prince Harry also said in his book Spare that his brother was not allowed to wear his Household Cavalry outfit.
Granny had denied him permission to wear his Household Cavalry uniform. She ordered him to wear the Number One Ceremonial since he was the Heir, Harry wrote.
Willy was unhappy that he had so little control over his wedding attire and that his independence had been taken away from him on such a significant day. He had expressed his frustration to me on several occasions.
“With the Crown Imperial and the forage cap bearing the regimental motto, ‘Quis Separabit?’ I told him he looked incredibly smart in the Harp of Ireland.” Who will keep us apart? It didn’t seem to leave an impact.
Prince William’s desire to don another outfit is well known. The future king earlier said to journalist Robert Hardman of the Daily Mail that he “knew perfectly well that it was for the best” but “wanted to decide what to wear for the wedding.”
“You simply follow instructions!” According to reports, Prince William stated.
William’s request for disulfiram may have been denied by Queen Elizabeth II, but she gave in when her grandson, who would go on to become king, expressed worry over the guest list.
The guest list for that kind of royal wedding was really unique, as you might expect. A wide range of celebrities were there, including Rowan Atkinson, David Beckham, and Sir Elton John; politicians; dignitaries; William and Kate’s university classmates; and even the landlord of The Old Boot Inn, the Middleton family’s hometown pub.
Something wasn’t quite right, even though a lot of their closest friends and relatives were there. William was upset about the guest list since there were so many people he didn’t know, according to Roya Nikkhah, who spoke on the BBC program.
William was rather perplexed when the guest list was created and spoke with the Queen, stating, “I don’t know any of these people.” It didn’t make him very pleased. “The Queen simply told him to tear up that list, start where you want to start, and invite whoever you want,” Nikkhah recounted.
The Old Boot Inn’s landlord, John Haley, said, “It was fantastic that Kate and William could invite all of their own pals. She grew up with pals from the village and from university. I’ve known her for almost 15 years, and she invited me. It was amazing.
Naturally, the wedding was a huge success, and the newlyweds were applauded by royal admirers all over the globe. At the post-nuptial celebration, the many guests were taken by surprise.
According to Robert Jobson’s book Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, “They stood holding hands in the middle of the dance floor, grinning.”
“Then all of a sudden, the first few bars of the Grease musical’s song You’re the One That I Want erupted. Then, in the manner of Danny and Sandy, the main characters, William and Catherine started to dance, gesture at one another, and mouth the phrases. It caused the home to collapse.
