If you ask me, Prince William and Kate Middleton have done a great job raising their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – and they’ve done it in the most ordinary way possible. Growing up to become a working member of the Royal Family is one thing, but having people to rely on and talk to about certain things when raised in that environment might be even more critical.
Sadly, George, Charlotte, and Louis don’t have that many children their age who are in the same position as them. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet would, of course, be ideal candidates in this respect, but they live in the US and have barely met.
That said, is it really OK that the royal children should become collateral damage as their parents and uncle, Prince Harry, are feuding? No, in my opinion it’s time for William and Kate Middleton to let their guard down a little – and allow their children to visit Harry and Meghan for the sake of their future.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will always have each other, that much is virtually set in stone. The three siblings will always be able to discuss their lives as royals with one another, including what they should do in certain situations, or how to go about getting guidance regarding future decisions.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis ‘should visit their cousins in the US’
But as things stand right now, they will also inevitably be dragged into the ongoing feud between their uncle, Prince Harry, and their parents and other family members.
George, Charlotte, and Louis have two cousins on the other side of the Atlantic: Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Yet they’ve barely met them and – I think it’s safe to assume – don’t really know them at all.
If things improved between their parents and the Sussexes perhaps they’d develop a close bond with their US cousins. I imagine the opportunities that would arise would only be positive for George, Charlotte, and Louis, as well as for Archie and Lilibet.
After all, it doesn’t matter who has a future within the Royal Family; it’s all about functional and loving family bonds – knowing there is someone to talk to and rely on.
In the case of Harry and Meghan versus Prince William and Kate, it seems very much like they’re destroying their children’s chance to get to know their cousins. And why should they be dragged into a feud they’ve had nothing to do with from the beginning?
“Would undoubtedly strengthen the family bond “
In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Louella Alderson, Heart Bingo’s relationship expert and co-founder of dating app So Syncd, said it best: “It doesn’t matter what has happened—it matters what you can do to make things better.”
“During a family argument, it’s important to remember that you are on the same team and want what’s best for the family. Try to find common ground and work towards a resolution together. And most importantly, remember to forgive and let go of past grievances. Holding onto grudges will only hinder your healing progress and prevent the family from moving forward,” Alderson said.
Since a sit-down between Harry and Prince William won’t be happening anytime soon, it makes sense to let George, Charlotte, and Louis visit their cousins. George and Charlotte have met Harry several times, and the former actually spent a lot of time with his uncle before Harry left royal life for good.
Harry and Meghan aren’t strangers to the young royals, so why not let George, Charlotte, and Louis visit them in the US, if only to let them get to know and play with their cousins, Archie and Lilibet?
A trip to the US for George, Charlotte, and Louis would undoubtedly strengthen the family bond and be the first step towards repairing an obviously broken relationship. The young royal children would also learn another perspective of life; namely how it looks outside the Royal Family.
Prince William & Kate Middleton would set an example for their children
It’s been reported that William and Kate are prepared to let Charlotte and Louis –who find themselves further down the line of succession than their older brother, George — choose career paths that veer from royal life, this could be an excellent opportunity for them to experience a different culture and broaden their worldview.
It’s been made clear that Prince William and Kate don’t have an interest in mending their relationship with Harry and Meghan, but isn’t it about time that they set an example for their children, letting them know that family is more important than anything?
Getting support and guidance when needed is critical, and Harry and Meghan have reportedly claimed they didn’t receive the support they needed while part of the Royal Family. For George, Charlotte, and Louis, getting to know their US cousins could become crucial, as they’ll have family members able to provide them with a support from a perspective that isn’t moulded by royal life.
If they don’t get to have relationships with distant family members, how will they ever be given an honest answer that doesn’t necessarily benefit the Firm?
It’s time for William and Kate to show trust in their children — as well as in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as family members.
Prince William & Kate Middleton should “let their children spread their wings”
Let their children spread their wings and visit the Sussexes in the US, and they will come back with new ideas and a whole different understanding of the world.
If the feud is so deep that this could be seen as a problem, then Prince William and Kate Middleton are perhaps better off telling their children that they don’t have any cousins at all.
And if that’s deemed the better solution, it’s devastating to imagine what Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis’ futures may be like.
