A Halloween tradition in Wake Forest is causing a stir among locals this Tuesday. The town received multiple complaints about a mummy Halloween decoration outside a house on North Main Street.
The setup features a mummy in a bag, chained and hung upside down by its feet. One person labeled the display “offensive,” while another felt it was too extreme for typical Halloween decor. However, the homeowner defended the prop, noting it has been a fixture in his yard for three Halloweens, with past visitors often stopping for photos.
The town reported that the Halloween decoration had been hung on a tree owned by the town, not on the homeowner’s property.
Town workers removed the decoration and left it on the homeowner’s porch. The homeowner expressed disappointment, stating he’s participated in Halloween celebrations in the Wake Forest historic district since 2013 and regrets that this year’s decoration caused offense.
He shared with WRAL News that he plans to proceed with his annual Halloween festivities.
