His sister Stella shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), expressing comfort in his peaceful passing. Dolly has not yet released a statement about the loss.
David was preceded in death by his infant son, Donnie; his parents, Robert and Avie; three brothers, Larry, Floyd, and Randy; his niece, Tever; and several in-laws.
As a retired bridge-building superintendent for Simpson Construction, David played a key role in projects across Kingsport, Johnson City, and Knoxville.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay; daughters Donna and Dena; “nephew/son” Lucas Townsend; as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to Dolly and Stella, his surviving siblings include Denver, Bobby, Willadene, Cassie, Freida, and Rachel.
The family will host a funeral service on November 19, at Leadvale Baptist Church in White Pine, starting with visitation at 5 p.m. They will lay him to rest on Wednesday at Dandridge Memorial Gardens.
The family thanked Dr. David McNabney, Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice, and caregivers who supported David in his final days.
